Conservation
Every decision we make on techniques, materials and design of our bindings, puts the survival and durability of the binding as our first consideration. As many of the books we work on are hundreds of years old, we do everything to increase their life expectancy.
Our attitude towards conservation is based on 40 years of experience of handling and restoring books; our belief is that sound and sympathetic traditional structures and materials are more likely to stand the test of time than modern materials and chemical treatments.
The experience we have of binding enables us to ensure that stress magnitude is reduced or dispersed in our structures. This is achieved through the highest levels of hand skills in creating the structure of the binding and in handling the covering materials correctly.
We always take great care to choose appropriate methods and style of binding, all books are considered individually as no two books are identical.
We take great pride in our work and gain satisfaction from restoring books so that many generations to come will take pleasure from them.
